Ron Hatfield is a USBC Gold Coach and co-founder of MyBowlingCoach.com. He served as Assistant Coach for Junior Team USA from 2002-2003 and now is the Head Coach for the Ukraine National Bowling Teams. Ron co-founded and was Head Coach for seven years for the Westerville South (Ohio) High School Bowling Program. This program was one of the most respected high school programs in the country. USBC used Westerville South as the model program in its National High School Coaches Guidebook. He also served as co-Head Coach for the Arizona State University Bowling Program for 2006-2007.
In addition to working with the Ukraine National Teams, Ron regularly travels the US and the world teaching clinics and seminars to bowlers of all ages and skill levels. He regularly goes to Europe, especially England, to work with some of their top athletes. Ron is a member of the Legends Gold Coaching Staff and is in charge of running the very successful Legends University programs, which travel the world to teach the game of bowling with premier coaches such as Fred Borden, Jeri Edwards, and Sam Baca. He also has been a perennial selection to the Bowler’s Journal Top 100 Coach list since 2005.
Ron has been an advocate for youth and high school bowling for many years. He served as the Coaching Representative for the Columbus (Ohio) Youth Board of Directors. He also was the presenter for high school bowling at the annual International Coaching Summit in 2004 and 2006, sharing information on building programs and coaching staffs.
Ron is a contributing writer for the Buckeye Bowler newspaper in which he shares his experiences about his travels as a coach. He is also a writer for exercise and injury articles for the US Bowler. Previously, he wrote articles and tips for the website for the Greater Columbus Bowling Association.
Ron’s bowling background has left some notable marks. He has recorded 13 300 games, a high series of 847, and a high average of 230. He was a three-year Captain for the Ohio State University Bowling Team and represented Ohio State in the National Collegiate Championships in 1989 and 1991. He was the 1990 Collegiate Midwest Doubles Champion, the 1990 Ohio State Bowler of the Year, and an Academic All-American in 1991. Ron graduated from Ohio State in 1991 with honors.
When he is home, Ron assists in operating the pro shop he is co-owner of at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace. For Ye Olde Pro Shoppe, he organizes and markets coaching programs. Most recently, he has helped develop and is Head Coach of the Palace Coaching Group (PCG), a group of USBC certified coaches dedicated to working together to promote education in bowling.
